The Possibilities to Reduce Arc Flash Exposure with Arc Fault Eliminators

This paper presents a method to limit the arc energy and hence hazard risk category value according IEEE 1584 by using system of two oppositely connected multi-sectional thyristor branches. A test circuit for testing effectiveness eliminator was designed constructed. Arc ignition inside electrical switchgear can be source danger technical personnel. The calculated algorithms in significantly reduced MSAE. For actual measuring object, calculation hazardous flash zone carried out not equipped with an eliminator, then same performed eliminator. In parallel, pressure closed polyvinyl chloride (PVC) box enclosure measured compared pressures that could occur during fault. It found Multi-Sectional Eliminator (MSAE) effectively protects devices supplied from low voltage networks against effects short or fault, such as sudden increase gas switchboard, which may cause it break, reduce loss electrode material, spread hot material outside switchgear, also reduces electric arc.
